Royal Mail Strikes

Royal Mail are holding one day strikes on Friday 30th September and Saturday 1st October. This means that no mail shall be collected from Post Offices or posted on these days.

Any orders placed after 9am on Wednesday 28th September will not be shipped until Monday 3rd October. Many apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Here at Railwayscenics we believe that most modellers want their items quickly. Therefore, orders placed by 09-00 am on a working day, will be packed and posted that same day. If this is not possible then items will be posted the following working day. In any event, all orders will be posted within 5 working days and delivery should be within 30 days.

All of our shipping costs are calculated dynamically based on your basket content weight. Therefore as you add or remove products from your basket, the delivery charge and the delivery methods available will automatically update. We believe that this is the fairest way to calculate postage and packaging costs.

How is the shipping on the website set up?

All of our shipping costs are calculated using the total weight of the order.

On orders up to 2kg in weight and up to £ 30.00 in value, all available shipping options are shown and are available for selection.

If the order total goes over £ 30.00 and the total order weight is under 2kg, only the Royal Mail signed for options, and the courier option will show. This gives you the peace of mind that your more expensive order will be insured, and a signature will be required on delivery.

Should your order be over £ 30.00 and under £ 500.00, and weight up to 5kg, only the Royal Mail Special Delivery option or the courier option will be shown.

The only fully tracked Royal Mail service that is offered is the Special Delivery option. Your parcel will be scanned at various points in the delivery process, showing where it is in the system.

When you select a signed for service we send you the tracking number in the order status update email so you can track in your order has been delivered. If your order is sent as a small parcel we also send you a delivery confirmation number in the order update email that can be used to see whether the parcel has been delivered.

The courier option will show if your order weight is under 10kg and the order value is under £ 200.00. The courier service we use is a 5 day service and is fully insured and tracked. A tracking number is sent in the order update email once the order has been taken to the courier drop off point.

Courier deliveries

Railwayscenics offers two courier delivery services. One is a next day service and the other is a cheaper 5 day service. The service you select will start from the day that you receive your order update notification email which lets you know that your order has been taken to the courier drop off point. This may not be on the day you order, as our order cut off time is 9-00 am, and the parcel has to be at the dropoff point by 12-00 pm.

There are some areas within the United Kingdom where next day delivery is not possible. If you live in one of these areas and select a next day service, we will downgrade your order and use the next best available service.

There are a few restrictions on what the courier will carry, and these will be pointed out on the product information pages. Any orders that include prohibited items will be amended and the prohibited item will be removed and a refund issued.

When you select courier delivery, we use a signed for service as standard, and a signature will be required on delivery. Because of this, please do not ask to have the parcel left in a safe place as it will not be possible.

Full insurance cover is also purchased on these services as standard so all goods are fully covered whilst in transit.

As a small user of these services, we cannot negotiate better prices than the standard ones offered by the couriers. As the business grows we will negotiate new prices with the couriers to ensure that you are always getting the best deal possible.

Our courier charges extra for remote deliveries which include the following postcode areas IM, HS, and ZE. We do not pass on these extra costs.

Once your order has been shipped, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number if available.

Inspection of consignment

Please inspect the outer packaging and the contents of all parcels before signing the couriers delivery note. If any part of your order is defective or missing, please reflect this on the carriers note.

Please do not accept delivery without checking the package.

Signing as NOT CHECKED will not cover you should an item be damaged or missing. We make insurance claims from the couriers and you should be aware of their policies regarding damage and missing items.

Royal Mail UK deliveries

Railwayscenics appreciate that waiting for deliveries can be an inconvenience, so with this in mind, we try to make as many parcels as we can letterbox friendly. This means we try to keep packages as thin as possible so they fit through most letterboxes. This is not always possible as some of our larger boxes will not fit through a letterbox.

We do not penalise you because of where you live! Whether it is Northern Ireland, Shetland, Isle of Man, or Inverness. If you have a UK postcode you will pay the same delivery costs as a customer who lives in Manchester. Please note that delivery time to most outreach locations is an additional two working days.

We currently take all of our Royal Mail parcels to a local post office, where we always obtain a certificate of posting, which we keep for at least 45 days. We need this to make a claim should your items be lost or damaged.

Large and restricted items

Over size orders are defined as those over 45cm in length, or where the length plus the width plus the height are more than 90cm in total. Restricted items, such as enamel paints, flammable products and liquids, aerosols and some other liquids can not be sent via Royal Mail or Airmail and must be sent via a courier. Below is a table showing the maximum sizes of different parcel types that can be posted using Royal Mail deliveries. We always pack using the smallest padded packaging or box possible, and we never use Royal Mail for anything larger than a Small Parcel size or anything weighing over 2kg.

Royal Mail prices

We have updated all the Royal Mail module prices, and they do seem to be fair to everyone. If you have any complaints about the pricing of the delivery please contact us before placing an order, but we are restricted to what we are charged.

We have used the table below as a base for our Royal Mail delivery costs. These are the standard costs taken from the Royal Mail website.

Packaging costs

All of our delivery costs include a portion to contribute towards the packaging materials that we use, so will be higher than the stamp or postage costs. We try to keep this small, as we do reuse as many packaging materials as we can.

Dispatch notifications

We will notify you by email when your order has been dispatched as part of the order update process used on the website. This is part of the automated system on the website and emails will be sent to the email given to register on the website. If there is a delivery confirmation number or a delivery tracking number then that will also be supplied, along with the website URL where you can enter the number and track your delivery.

Expected delivery times

By default we use Royal Mail for most of our deliveries. There is an option at the checkout stage for you to alter the service used. We offer 1st and 2nd Class postage as the choices for delivery. We also offer Recorded and Signed For deliveries in both 1st and 2nd class.

Delivery will be made to the shipping address specified on the original order unless we feel that it should be sent to the Verified PayPal address. Any subsequent change of delivery address will incur additional charges.

Delivery times are given as a guide only so if the delivery is urgent or required for a specific date then the next day guaranteed special delivery service should be used. If requesting next day delivery, please note our cut off time is 10-30am. Any order placed after that time will be sent the following working day. Please be aware that Royal Mail DO NOT operate this service on a Saturday so will deliver on the next working day.

Royal Mail 1st Class aims to deliver within 1-2 working days from dispatch, and 2nd Class is estimated to be delivered within 2-3 days of dispatch. These are only estimates and delivery may be longer depending on the day and time they were posted.

Any delivery dates given on this website are only an estimate and should be used as a guide. If in any doubt, information on delivery times can be found on the Royal Mail website.

Royal Mail should not leave parcels outside, and we have no way of leaving them instructions on a safe place to leave parcels. If we receive any instructions on where a parcel should be left, they will be ignored.

Delivery can only be made to a P.O. Box address if you provide us with your phone number.

Delivery of customer orders is subject to the policies of Railwayscenics elected shipping agents.

If a customer cannot take delivery, it will be the customers responsibility to retrieve the parcel according to the policies of the shipping agent. If collection of a parcel is not made, that parcel may be returned to us and additional costs will be incurred to redeliver and these will be passed on to the customer before delivery will be attempted.

Non delivery of a parcel

Should you contact us regarding a non delivery of a parcel, we will always advise you to wait a few more days or to contact your local sorting office to see whether they have the parcel.

We will contact your local sorting office also to see whether they have the parcel and whether a card was left. In the event of not being able to find the parcel, a report is sent to Royal Mail, with a compensation claim. Royal Mail will carry out an investigation and if necessary report their findings to the police.

We report all claims we make to Action Fraud and leave it to them to decide on any further action. We will help both Royal Mail and Action Fraud in any way that we can including the release of data if asked.

We are in no way suggesting that every non delivered item is fraudulent so please do not take offence from this. It is just a policy that we have adopted to ensure that if nothing else we are compensated for our losses.

Complaints procedure

Should any product, or service, offered by Railwayscenics not meet your satisfaction please inform us and we will deal with your comments or complaint as soon as possible.

Please use our online Contact Us form to provide us with your name, address and telephone number or email. Please also state clearly your complaint or problem. We will acknowledge your correspondence by return and try to resolve the problem within 3 days.
